1 household on 4 bought video games in 2007, according to NPD Group

According to NPD Group, international company specialized in marketing studies, 5.5 millions French households bought at least one product falling in the « video game » category in 2007 (consoles, games, accessories, etc.), what represents 23% of French households: an increase of 1.2 millions compared to 2006 (+ 5 points / year).

The average expenses per home reach 400 euros in 2007, a 27% increasing budget.

However, we can notice some irregularities in the consummers profile:

30-45 years old consummers (1/4 of population) represent 53% of purchases but only 36% of this gain (in value). We also have to notice the increase of retired consumers, from 5% in 2006 to 9% in 2007.

There is no doubt that more innovative and accessible game consoles, and a gaming market more and more targetted will give a hand for the video game market democratization to spread up in the next few years.
